Hello!
I’m Brian Jimenez and I’m a narrative artist focused on interactions with my viewers. My work pushes viewers away from the passive role of standing back and admiring the work from a distance, breaking the glass that exists between the artistic world and reality.
I grew up playing lots of games, such as Walter Wick’s I Spy series. To me, those worlds always felt like a new discovery could be hidden behind any corner. This sense of discovery and wonder to seeing and connecting things that were once hidden is what I focus on in my work.
I start my process by deciding what piece would fit best within my narrative and use whatever medium tells the story best. My best mediums include acrylic ink, wood, and light. I reward people who poke and prod my work by giving them extra details of what the story is about.
My work has appeared in the juried Best of SUNY shows for both 2023 and 2024. My piece “Oilslick” has appeared in the College at Brockport 2023 Annual Student Art Exhibition juried by Hans Gindlesberg, where it won several prizes including a Purchase Prize from the College of Brockport. I’m currently completing my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Drawing, my thesis show will open late 2024.
